Fall is one of the best times of the year to be in the Boston area. Students and young professionals have moved into their new Boston apartment rentals, the weather is starting to cool down and there’s plenty of exciting things to do. There’s a lot to enjoy before it gets cold, especially if you’re new to the city. Here are a few of our favorite things to do during the fall in the Greater Boston area.
Visit Boston Common
The Boston Common is the oldest city park in the United States and covers 50 acres. Located in the center of the city, the park offers a great place for a quick break during a trip downtown or a destination for a picnic with friends, exploring the Freedom Trail, or enjoy the views. The Common (as Bostonians love to call it) gets particularly beautiful in the fall when you can enjoy the foliage without even leaving the city.
Take a Bike Ride
The cooler fall weather makes it the perfect time to go outside and enjoy a bike ride around the city. Boston has many beautiful bike paths that can make it easy to get around so pick where you’d like to go and head out.
- Charles River Bike Path: a popular bike path along the Charles River that offers wonderful views of the city skyline
- Southwest Corridor Bike Path: paved path running through a linear park from Back Bay to Forest Hills
- Minuteman Bikeway: connecting the Alewife “T” Station in Cambridge to Bedford
Apple Picking
Autumn in the Boston area wouldn’t be complete without apple picking. It’s a New England tradition and taking a break from hectic work or school life to an apple orchard can be refreshing. You’ll be able to find some of the best fresh apples, apple cider, cider donuts, and more at farms located within an hour of the city.
Go On a Beach Trip
Beaches start to get less crowded as temperatures start to drop which might mean it’s the perfect time for you and your friends to take a trip to the beach. Some of the most beautiful beaches in the country are located around Boston so it’s a good idea to get out and enjoy our amazing beaches before it gets too cold.
